Spring cleaning and nesting urges

So I am jumping on the springtime bandwagon. Maybe a little bit late, but better late than never! I'm really starting to feel it now, the magical spring feeling of growth and change and new begginings. I think I have finally shed my sleepy winter coat after spending it living in our caravan through all that torrential rain back in January.

I'm now 25 weeks pregnant (only 15 to go, yay!) and reality is starting to set in. Lots of things are going to change in the coming months,  some of which I am in control of, some that I am not. But determination and a positive attitude shall prevail! We are living with my other half's parents at the moment, waiting for a council house because we can't afford anything else. Even though we have already been here a couple of months I have only just started to pack and unpack things ready for when we have our own place. I've even put some of my decorations up in our bedroom, and its really helped me to feel more grounded and like we have our own space, if only little,  for now.

Organising silly little things has also helped, and settles my nesting urges a bit, as I am itching to sort a room and a cot for baby, none of which we have any room for at the moment. So here are some silly things I have been doing to distract myself:

My corner shelf unit with nicknacks, dreamcatcher, ivy, and beloved Victoria Frances calendar. It feels nice to feminise the room a bit as the atmosphere was rather masculine.

My collection of eyelashes,  now organised in this pretty silver box!

My lovely jewellery stand which was a birthday gift from my boyfriend's sister. I wear jewellery so much more now that I have it on the wall to see.

And finally a closeup of the teacups sitting on my corner shelf. I got these adorable little cups from a charity shop, they were made by Hendricks Gin but when I saw the literary quotes inside them I was in love. The left one reads "Minds, like bodies, will often fall into a pimpled, ill-conditioned state from mere excess of comfort." -Charles Dickens.  And the right one is from Oscar Wilde; "A dreamer is one who can only find his way home by moonlight."

Experiments in hair dye

So pregnancy is making me rather bored with my hair lately.  I haven't been able to bleach my roots since I've been pregnant,  and the longer it grows the easier it is to manage so I have pretty much just let it grow the past six months. But because of my hormones (I can only guess) none of my semi permanent colours seem to have been sticking.  My hair is still very very blue underneath the purple colours I've been using, so I decided I wanted to go a little more red.

This is my colour before I started,  I washed it a few times without dying it to try and get as neutral a base colour as I could. The purple won't stick but I think I might be blue forever!

Here is what rose red is supposed to look like... I didn't think it would actually turn out like this but I hoped it might have some sort of reddish effect. So heres what I ended up with:

With the flash, it looks quite pink.

And without the flash. I think its redder in this picture than it looks to me in the mirror.  After lots of experiments with colours lately, I have deduced that pinks and reds rather than actual purple dyes have my my hair the most vibrant purple shades. I think I will persevere with Rose Red and see what happens!

It's all about the eyelashes

It's my day off today, and whilst I have spent most of the day doing washing and other household jobs, I decided to spend a little bit of time putting on makeup to make me feel pretty.

It's a really simple look, I was aiming for the false lashes to be the focal point of the look, but I couldn't resist lipstick too. I'm wearing two sets of lashes, both of which I love, they make me feel cutesy and mischievous,  hence this silly photo ;)

The top ones are from Revlon I think, and are spiky and doll-like. The bottom ones are bow shaped paper lashes from Stargazer and I love them so much this is my second pair. As they are made of paper they need replacing more often than your average false lashes, but I don't mind as I don't wear them all that often anyway. Sometimes I wear big colouful makeup with only one bow on, but with a more simplistic look you can definitely get away with both.

Some times its all about the lashes ;)

Kreepsville hair horns!

Although I have owned a black pair for sometime now, I recently bought a lilac pair on a whim, not sure I would ever wear them. But since my hair is now purple I find they match perfectly and love to wear them!

You can't see them all that well in the photos which is frustrating as in thr mirror they look very obvious.

They are really hard to find anywhere, especially cheap. I bought the black ones from an Etsy shop, but I found the purple ones at a local goth shop in Bristol called Twilight fashions. And they were SO much cheaper,  never mind p&p!

One last picture, for the sake of my makeup. Haha. I also had my hair in plaits yesterday so it's very crinkly(for lack of a better description) today so being my lazy self I just backcombed the shit out of it and stuck in some accessories.

Happy Wednesday!

Cheaters makeup... how to goth it up quick!

I admit I am quite the girly girl. I love playing with makeup, and when I do I like to take a long time doing it. So when I know I don't have enough time to "put on my eyes" as I like to say (involing eyeliner, shadow AND false lashes) but still want to feel pretty, I do tend to cheat a little bit.

This is where lipsticks come in. Just a dab of foundation here, a flick of mascara there, pretty average right? But a slick of your favourite lipstick adds a magical touch of gothiness on the most time pressed of occasions. Here are my favourites:

Collection 2000 at Boots, ltd edition gothic collection in Seduction,  £2.99. This shade ia a dark berry red with pink undertones. Couldn't find this online. Hoping they still sell it now. As it comes in three colours (of which I have two) and has a lovely smooth moist texture to it.

Ok pretend you can't see my eye make up here. It's the only photo I have wearing this lipstick. Which is from the Kate collection by Rimmel, it's a very dark purple that looks black most of the time. Its ok, but the formula could be better. I had another Kate lipstick in the matt range and it was awful, really dry and lumpy. Both about £5.49 I think.

Finally, my other lipstick of the Collection 2000 gothic shades, Revenge. Alot like the first, Seduction,  only deeper and darker. LOVE.

I never used to have the courage  to wear lipstick at all, although we have all gone through that babybat stage of thinking I MUST ONLY WEAR BLACK LIPSTICK OR I AM NOT A REAL GOTH!! Haha. But I do find it easier wearing lipstick with only light eyemakeup during the day, it's very easy to pull off and will help ease you into wearing lipstick more often.  There are so many wonderful shades of lipstick on my makeup wishlist too, but I'd rather wait and use up a few I already have than buy more. Maybe when I get them I will do more makeup posts.
